Queensland Water Infrastructure

Queensland Water Infrastructure Pty Ltd (QWI) is managing several major water infrastructure projects that will supply significant additional water to South East Queensland (SEQ).

South East Queensland is the fastest growing region in Australia with a vibrant economy and an increasing population. The region's population is predicted to grow to more than 5 million people by 2050. Without new water supply sources, there will be an estimated shortfall of 300,000 megalitres per annum (ML/a) by mid century.

The Queensland Government has developed a multi-faceted strategy to ensure a safe and sustainable water supply for the region well into the future, through a combination of desalination, recycling, new dams and storage facilities and rain water tanks.

QWI is the proponent responsible for the proposed Traveston Crossing and Wyaralong dams, and the recently completed Cedar Grove Weir and Bromelton Offstream Storage projects.
