Bromelton Offstream Storage Begins Commissioning

Bromelton Offstream Storage has started commissioning activities following pre-commission testing on the pump station.

Graeme Newton, Queensland Water Infrastructure Pty Ltd (QWI) Chief Executive Officer, said the commissioning phase was necessary to ensure the storage stands up to design and engineering standards.

“Commissioning provides necessary testing, which includes pumping water into the storage,” Mr Newton said.

“The storage will be monitored to ensure it operates safely and as designed.”

The Bromelton Offstream Storage is part of the Queensland Government measures to ensure a safe and sustainable water supply for South East Queensland.

The storage has the capacity to deliver an additional 5,000 ML per year of water when working in conjunction with Cedar Grove Weir and Wyaralong Dam.

During high flow events, water will be pumped from the Logan River into the facility to boost regional water supply and contribute to the SEQ Water Grid.

The Water Infrastructure Solutions Alliance (WISA) was appointed to design and build the $39.7 million project.

WISA comprises QWI, Macmahon Contractors, SMEC and Hydro Tasmania and has significant experience in the delivery of dams and offstream storage facilities.

Water required for the commissioning activities will have no on impact irrigator’s entitlements.
