Environmental Impact Statement

The proposed Traveston Crossing Dam has been declared a "significant project", and requires an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in accordance with the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971.

QWI nominated the project as a 'controlled action' under the Federal Government's Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, which require a statutory review process by the Commonwealth Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts.

The purpose of the EIS is to identify environmental effects and propose actions to eliminate or mitigate those that will impact adversely on the natural, social, cultural or economic environment. It should also advise on means to maximise positive environmental impacts.

The EIS was released for public comment on 18 October 2007, and submissions closed on 14 January 2008. The Executive Summary, full EIS, Appendices, Supplementary Technical Reports and an Addendum to the EIS are available for download below.

The scope of the technical studies for the EIS was based on the Terms of Reference issued by the Coordinator-General.

Electronic or hard copies of the EIS can be ordered by calling 1800 225 384.
