QWI welcomes next step in EIS process

Queensland Water Infrastructure Pty Ltd (QWI) welcomes the Coordinator General’s request for a supplementary report for the Traveston Crossing Dam Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

QWI Chief Executive Officer Graeme Newton said the company will prepare a supplementary report to address matters raised in the public and agency submissions to the EIS.

“Its very common for supplementary reports to be required for projects of this size and nature, and it is consistent with QWI’s planning and timeframes for the project,” Mr Newton said.

“QWI has already begun reviewing submissions to the EIS and preparing additional material in the event that the Coordinator-General requested a supplementary report.

“We will now finalise this review and consolidate material into a report to meet the Coordinator General’s requirements.”

The process of preparing a supplementary report for an Environmental Impact Statement is not unusual. Since October 2006, QWI’s documentation, such as fact sheets, newsletters and materials prepared to accompany the release of the EIS, foreshadowed the likelihood of a supplementary report as part of the process.

To provide a context, since 2000, the Coordinator-General has issued a report for 31 significant projects in Queensland. Of these, all but two have required a  supplementary report.

QWI is also preparing a supplementary report for the Wyaralong Dam EIS at the request of the Coordinator-General.
