14 November 2007 - Queensland Water Infrastructure (QWI) Pty Ltd will hold a Community Information Day associated with the Wyaralong Dam Project Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) this weekend. Community members are invited to attend the Information Day at Boonah on Saturday 17 November from 11am to 3pm. The format of the Community Information Day will include a range of project posters on display, attended by EIS project team members. The Information Day follows the release of the Project’s EIS on 7 November 2007. There has been more than 400 copies of the EIS distributed on CD Rom to stakeholders, including local businesses, landholders, interest groups and construction companies. QWI Chief Executive Officer Graeme Newton said the Community Information Day was part of QWI’s commitment to involving the community in the EIS process and providing timely information. “The material provided at the Information Day will include the various elements of the EIS, including technical information, environmental investigations, mitigation measures and the opportunities for work on the Project,” Mr Newton said. “Now the EIS has been released, the upcoming Information Day will offer the community a chance to talk directly to project team members and ask questions or seek clarification on posted information. “This is a significant infrastructure Project for the region, and we encourage people to get involved in the consultation process.” The Information Day will be held at Bicentennial Park, Boonah-Fassifern Road, Boonah. The Wyaralong Dam Project EIS will be assessed by the Coordinator-General under Queensland’s State Development and Public Works Act 1971, which also involves a statutory review by the Federal Department of Environment and Water Resources under the Australian Government’s Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Members of the public will have until Wednesday 12 December 2007 to comment on the EIS. A copy of the EIS is available on CD ROM free of charge through the QWI information line, 1800 225 384, and can be viewed on the QWI website at www.qldwi.com.au or at 13 selected local Council offices and libraries throughout the region until Monday 12 December. Members of the community are invited to review the EIS and to submit formal comments on any matter discussed in the document. Submissions are to be made to Queensland’s Coordinator-General.
